Our full 2026 changelog covers what changed in the Tesla UK referral programme itself. This one is narrower: what's actually relevant to timing your order this year — plus one calculation we've started publishing ourselves that most UK referral pages still don't show.

Programme changes that remove old timing reasons to wait

Three 2026 changes are worth knowing if you've been delaying an order for a timing reason: Model S and Model X left the UK referral programme in March 2026, so there's no longer a case for timing an S/X order around referral terms that no longer exist; FSD (Supervised) moved to subscription-only in May 2026, closing off any lingering "wait in case a free FSD trial arrives via referral" reasoning, since FSD was never part of the UK referral anyway; and a new Electric Car Grant launched with a roughly £37,000 price ceiling that every current Tesla model exceeds, so there's no grant-timing angle to chase for a Tesla order either. What's new on our side: the season-adjusted real-miles figure

This year we started publishing something most UK referral pages don't: what the 650-mile Supercharging credit actually converts to in real driven miles, depending on the ambient temperature you're driving in when you use it. Using our published cold-weather retention curve (checked 2026-07-13), a car used mostly in UK winter conditions around 0°C sees roughly 507 real miles from the credit rather than the full 650; used mostly in mild conditions near 20°C, it's close to the full figure. This isn't a change Tesla made to the programme — it's a calculation we now show because the headline "650 miles" figure quietly assumes mild weather, and nobody was saying so plainly. What still hasn't changed

• The one real timing rule: click the referral link before you configure and pay. Unaffected by season, and unaffected by any of the 2026 changes above.
• The £ value of the referral credit is fixed at grant, since it's an energy allowance, not a distance allowance.
• A referrer's own credit expiry (12 months from grant, extendable to a maximum of 36 months) and 10-referral annual cap are unrelated to the buyer's delivery date or the season.

The honest takeaway for anyone timing an order right now

None of 2026's real programme changes give a good reason to delay ordering, and the season-adjusted real-miles effect is small, temporary, and already priced into the maths above — not a reason to wait for warmer weather either. Three things worth re-checking before you click today

Because 2026 has already brought three genuine programme changes, it's worth a quick re-check rather than trusting a page you read months ago:

• Confirm your model is still Model 3 or Model Y — S/X no longer carry a referral benefit in the UK at all.
• Don't budget on a free FSD trial from the referral — it was never part of the UK programme, and FSD itself is subscription-only now regardless.
• Don't assume the Electric Car Grant applies to a Tesla — check the live price threshold at GOV.UK if you're unsure, since every current model sits above it today.

Beyond those three, the mechanics haven't moved: click first, configure second, and expect the real-miles figure above to apply for the first few weeks if your delivery lands in a cold month.
