What Changed for Tesla UK Referrals & Orders This Year

Referral and delivery pages go stale fast because the underlying programme keeps moving. Here's what's actually changed for UK buyers in 2026, dated, so you're not reading last year's terms.

March 2026 — Model S and Model X left the UK referral programme

Model S and Model X were removed from the UK line-up and, with them, the referral programme. May 2026 — FSD (Supervised) went subscription-only

Full Self-Driving (Supervised) moved to a subscription-only model globally. This doesn't change the UK referral benefit directly — FSD still isn't road-legal or generally available on UK roads, so a UK referral was never going to include it either way — but it closes off any residual "maybe a free FSD trial is coming" assumption some UK buyers were carrying over from US coverage.

2026 — a new Electric Car Grant launched, and Tesla doesn't qualify

GOV.UK introduced an Electric Car Grant offering up to £3,750 off some new electric cars, but restricted to models priced under roughly £37,000. Every current Tesla model — from the Model 3 (RWD) at £39,990 upward — sits above that threshold, so no Tesla order qualifies. This is worth stating plainly because it's easy to see "£3,750 EV grant" headlines and assume it stacks with a Tesla referral; it doesn't. Always re-check the live threshold and eligible-model list at GOV.UK, since these criteria are reviewed periodically.

What hasn't changed

• The core Model 3/Y referral benefit is still 650 free Supercharging miles, applied at the new car's account, not a price discount.
• Inventory (ex-demo/used) cars still carry the £500 off benefit.
• The referrer cap remains 10 referrals per calendar year, with Supercharging credits expiring 12 months from grant, extendable to a maximum of 36 months.
• One referral still applies per order, attached before the deposit is paid, and can't be added retroactively.
• Cybertruck and Tesla solar retail still aren't sold in the UK, so neither carries a UK referral benefit.

Which of these three are likely to reverse

A changelog is more useful if it tells you which entries to keep watching, so here is our read on the durability of each — labelled as judgement, not fact, because none of it is announced.

• Model S and X leaving the programme: reversible in principle, unlikely to matter. Programme eligibility is a list Tesla maintains, and lists get edited. But both cars are low-volume in the UK and the referral is a demand tool aimed at volume models, so we would not plan around them returning.
• FSD going subscription-only: a structural change, not a promotion. This one moved how the product is sold rather than what it costs this month. Changes of that shape tend to stay, because reversing them means re-establishing a purchase price and honouring it. Treat it as the new baseline.
• The Electric Car Grant ceiling: the one genuinely worth watching. Grant thresholds are policy, and policy is revisited on a schedule — budgets, reviews, changes of minister. It is also the only one of the three where a change would be published rather than quietly rolled out. If any entry here changes in a way that affects a Tesla order, it is most likely this one.

The practical upshot: two of these three are settled enough to decide around, and the third has a public paper trail you can check yourself rather than wait to hear about. That is a better position than the usual advice to "keep an eye on it", because it tells you where to look.
