Once buyers understand that a Tesla referral's £ value doesn't change with the season, the follow-up questions are usually specific and practical. Here are the ones we see most, answered plainly against the same maths as our order-timing explainer.
Does the season I take delivery change how much my referral is worth in pounds?
No. The referral credits a fixed amount of Supercharging energy, so its £ value — calculated from Supercharger pricing — stays the same regardless of when your car is handed over. What changes with season is the real driven distance that energy converts to, not its price.
Do I really get fewer real miles from the 650-mile credit if I take delivery in winter?
Yes, in the weeks the car is actually driven in cold weather. At around 0°C UK ambient temperature, our published range-retention curve suggests roughly 78% of mild-weather range, which converts the 650-mile credit into closer to 507 real miles until the weather warms up.
Should I delay ordering my Tesla to try to get a summer delivery instead?
We wouldn't recommend it. The seasonal effect is real but modest and temporary, while delaying an order risks losing months of use of the car and exposes you to any future change in the referral programme's own terms.
Does cold weather also affect charging speed, not just range?
Very cold battery temperatures can reduce peak charging rates until the battery warms up, which is why Tesla's own navigation preconditions the battery ahead of a routed Supercharger stop.
