Model Y L: EU Approval Granted, UK Pricing Not Published

Sam Whitfield, UK EV writer & Tesla owner · filed

A variant with approval, references in configurator code, and no published UK price. What can be modelled, and what would be invention.

The six-seat Model Y L has EU type approval and has appeared in European configurator source code, after going on US sale from $61,990 on 2 July 2026. There is no published UK release date or price. This dispatch records what can be modelled and marks the rest as unknown.

What can be modelled

The reward, because it is market-defined rather than model-defined. If the variant reaches the UK as a new-order Model Y, the referral benefit it would carry is 650 free Supercharging miles — worth about £76 at the member rate — because that is the UK reward for the family. Nothing about a body variant changes a market's reward.

What cannot be modelled

UK price, UK timing, and therefore any percentage-of-deal figure. Publishing an estimated UK price for an unannounced variant would be invention, and converting a US dollar price into a UK one ignores VAT, specification and market pricing decisions. This desk states the gap rather than filling it.

The eligibility question that remains open

Family-level eligibility is a strong expectation, not proof. Cybertruck demonstrates that Tesla will exclude an individual trim inside an eligible family — Premium AWD and Cyberbeast qualify, Dual Motor AWD does not — so a new variant is verified on the order summary rather than by inference. Cybertruck itself is not sold in the UK, which is why that example is instructive here rather than relevant.

Where the variant would change a UK decision

For three-row buyers. Model S and Model X left the referral programme in March 2026, so a six-seat Model Y variant would be the eligible option for a buyer who needs a third row — one of the very few configuration changes that adds a referral benefit rather than removing one.

What to do while pricing is unpublished

Nothing referral-shaped. A reward worth about £76 is not a reason to wait for a variant or to order ahead of one. If the L arrives and suits you, attach a referral link before configuring and read the order summary before paying — the same procedure as any other UK order.

How to read variant news without being misled

Take the specification from launch coverage and answer every commercial question locally. Price, availability, delivery timing and referral reward are all market-set, and the market that launched first is usually not yours. This is the third variant in a year to raise the same question — Standard trims, the trim split on Cybertruck, and now the L — and in each case the published referral perimeter lagged the showroom. The pattern is not stinginess; it is a programme whose terms are revised on their own schedule while the product line moves continuously.

Re-verification note

This entry is dated because its central fact is an absence. When UK pricing is published, the percentage-of-deal arithmetic becomes computable in the Referral-Savings Calculator, and this dispatch should be read as superseded.
