A unit conversion nobody performs. The mainland reward is close to twice the UK figure, which is the arithmetic behind the most-copied UK referral error.
In April 2026 Tesla doubled the mainland European referral reward from roughly 1,000 km to about 2,000 km. The UK figure is 650 miles. Convert one into the other and the gap is the whole story.
The conversion

The mainland reward is roughly 1.9× the UK one. The two figures are not the same reward expressed in different units, which is exactly the assumption that produces the error.
Why the error spreads
Three compounding reasons. UK referral content is heavily rewritten from European sources. April 2026 gave every European page a fresh number to copy at the same moment UK pages were being refreshed. And the units differ, so a writer who converts can convince themselves the claims match.
The value gap, in pounds
At 3.5 mi/kWh and the member rate of 41p/kWh, the UK reward is worth about £76. On the same assumptions the mainland reward would be worth roughly £146. A UK page quoting the mainland figure overstates the benefit by close to double.
What both markets share
The mechanics, which is where the money is actually lost: the benefit attaches at the order through the link and cannot be added afterwards; charging distance expires six months from the Grant Date; and an allowance cannot be transferred, cashed out, or reissued.
Why the UK figure did not move
No published reasoning exists, and this desk will not invent one. What can be observed is that the UK sits outside the EU regulatory perimeter governing the other half of the referral story, and that three markets currently run three different rewards under one programme name.
The expiry comparison nobody makes
Both markets run the same six-month clock on charging distance, which means the mainland's larger reward is also the harder one to spend. Roughly 2,000 km is about 11 ordinary Supercharger stops against the UK's 6 — in the same window. So the doubling was genuinely generous and it raised the risk of waste proportionally, which is the sort of detail that only appears once you convert a reward into sessions rather than admiring it as a headline.
The check to apply to any UK page
Read the unit. A UK-facing page quoting kilometres is quoting another market; one promising free FSD is quoting North America; one promising a flat £500 credit is describing an older programme or conflating the £500 inventory reduction with the mileage reward.
