Most discount codes work the same way everywhere: a text box at checkout, type the code, watch the total drop. Tesla's UK order flow doesn't have that box, and that single difference is why so many first-time buyers ask "where do I actually put the code?" Short answer: nowhere — you never type it. Here's exactly where it shows up instead, and the real numbers behind it.
Why there's no code field
A Tesla referral link carries the code itself — tesla.com/en_gb/referral/<code>, or the shortened ts.la/<code> form. Clicking it, rather than typing anything, is what attaches it to your session before you start configuring. There is no separate voucher field later in the flow, because the attachment already happened at the click. The only place it becomes visible again is a line item in your order summary, confirming 650 free Supercharging miles (or £500 off, on inventory stock) before you pay.
The real numbers behind that line item
"650 miles" on its own isn't a checkout total. Here's what it actually adds up to against the rest of what you're looking at on the order summary, for the two most common configurations:

The referral credit never appears as a line that reduces the price shown at checkout — it's Supercharging energy, credited to the car's account, not cash off the vehicle. That's a genuinely different shape from a voucher discount, and it's worth knowing before you go looking for a smaller "total" on the order summary.
The nuance most guides skip: saved builds and returning later
Every worked example on this site assumes one continuous session: click the link, configure, pay, all in one sitting. In practice, some buyers save a configuration and come back to it later via an emailed link. We could not find a published, UK-specific confirmation of whether a referral stays attached if you close the browser and return days later through a saved-build link, rather than finishing in the same session you clicked in. Rather than guess, the safest approach is the one Tesla's own flow is built around: keep click-to-payment as one session where you can, and if you do return later, re-click your referral link before you finalise payment — it costs nothing to re-click, and it doesn't create a duplicate order.
The moment it locks, precisely
The window closes at one specific action: paying the order fee. Not configuring, not saving a build, not receiving a delivery estimate — paying. Once that's done, the order summary is fixed, and nothing added afterwards can put a referral line onto it. If you're mid-configuration and haven't paid yet, this is your last checkpoint to confirm the line is there.
